Talk 'Putting Aspen on the Map in Strathspey’ a great success.

28th November 2007

The group’s November public meeting in Strathspey, an illustrated talk by John Parrott on aspen in our district was a great success. Consequently thanks to a further offer from John we hope to arrange a repeat for members of the public in Badenoch in January. Aspen is one of our most remarkable tree and supports a wealth of rare and interesting wildlife. Beavers, the aspen hoverfly, the aspen bracket fungus, some little known lichens and the rare dark bordered beauty moth where just a few of the species mentioned in John Parrott’s talk that focussed on mapping aspen stands as a step towards conserving rare aspen dependant species. This winter a number of members are planning to help with this Scottish Native Woods aspen recording project in our district.
